Murano workshop, Chalice, glass, late 15th century (inv. n. Vetri 22)

The symbol of the glass collection, this crystalline glass goblet was probably commissioned by a successor of Francesco Sforza, possibly Ludovico il Moro.
Adorned with drops of red and white enamel and golden hemispheres, it bears two Sforza family heraldic plaques topped by a golden ducal crown. The quartered coat of arms carries the Visconti snakes and the imperial eagles. The goblet, the precious sole survivor of a service made for the Lords of Milan, was restored at the knop in the 17th century, and purchased by the museum in 1900.
